Mentor Resources and Guidelines
|
|
Christian Mentoring is a one-on-one relational
experience in which one Christian empowers another by investing God-given wisdom and resources. Though the word "mentor" does
not appear in the Bible the process of mentoring was the primary means of instruction in those times.
The Bible is a book about relationships...God's relationship in the Trinity, God's relationship to man and man's relationship
to each other. Our nature as relational beings is ultimately an expression of God's own nature.
|
|
The following scriptures give examples of mentoring relationships:
-Exodus 18 - Jethro and Moses
-Deut 31:1-8; 34:9 - Moses and Joshua
-Acts 16:1-3; Phil 2:19-23; I and II Tim - Paul and Timothy
Why mentor? Because...
-It provides accountability,
-It promotes and encourages success,
-It provides a healthy model of Christian living,
-Even in church people can be isolated and lonely.
We approach the establishment of a healthy Christian mentoring relationship through the framework of a covenant. A covenant
is concerned about relationships in which God is at work in both the mentor and the mentee - and God does not fail. We may fail and
that is the perfect time for God to do His greatest work. A covenent is person-centered, defines the nature of the relationship,
clarifies the primary goal of the relationship and ultimately is about spiritual development.
